But if your gonna spread the blame, let's also talk about the joke that was season 7 of TNG. Or the thrid season of TOS.

Star Trek has never produced only for the fans, just as the comic movie adaptions with a strong fan base that are done in the last years are not done merely for the fans.
You know why? Because the best course to create art is to do what you consider the best, artistic liberty. You can never satisfy all tastes and especially not the diverse tastes of fans. Fanatic, hence fan.

Just take us two, you are a purist, I would even buy Koerner's version of the E. There always has been enough Trek for each taste and if one keeps an open mind, one starts to enjoy Trek one has disliked so far.

Yes but season 7 had the luxury of an established audience, the foreknowledge it would be the final season and the buzz of an upcoming movie to keep it's momentum going through the, admittedly weak set of episodes they produced for it.
