I was wondering what do you guys think the new ST movie needs to be a successful hit.
The last movie Nemesis that I enjoyed tanked really bad. It had some issues here and there that they could of fixed but over all I thought it was good. I've heard that it was over edited and thats one of the reason's it could of bombed. Why did you guys think this movie did so bad? I also noticed that only one ST movie made over $100 million in the domestic box office only which was ST voyage home. And I read some here that the new ST movie is expected to cost some where around $135 million. Only one ST movie, first contact made $146 million, and that domestic and internationally combined. All I have to say is JJ has a lot of work ahead of him and hopefully it's a succes world wide. ![]()

For all movies with a budget above $ 100 Million you have to look at its international success.
Just like MI:III, domestic only $134 Million with a budget of $150 Million, but domestic + international combined Mission Impossible 3 made $400 Million and therefore was a big success. They want to do the same with STXI. Here the approximated results of all movies, subdivided in the US and World result. Inflation-adjusted only ST10 didn't reach $150 million worldwide. HTML Code:
Original inflation-adjusted Title US World US World Star Trek 1 (1979) 82 Mio. 133 Mio. 218 Mio. 359 Mio. Star Trek 2 (1982) 78 Mio. 97 Mio. 177 Mio. 221 Mio. Star Trek 3 (1984) 76 Mio. 87 Mio. 160 Mio. 182 Mio. Star Trek 4 (1986) 109 Mio. 133 Mio. 207 Mio. 252 Mio. Star Trek 5 (1989) 52 Mio. 70 Mio. 92 Mio. 124 Mio. Star Trek 6 (1991) 75 Mio. 97 Mio. 125 Mio. 162 Mio. Star Trek 7 (1994) 75 Mio. 120 Mio. 124 Mio. 199 Mio. Star Trek 8 (1996) 92 Mio. 146 Mio. 147 Mio. 233 Mio. Star Trek 9 (1998) 70 Mio. 112 Mio. 94 Mio. 151 Mio. Star Trek 10 (2002) 43 Mio. 67 Mio. 51 Mio. 80 Mio.

Onlya trekkie could have enjoyed nemesis and even then most didn't so it could never have been successful.
People have inbuilt bs detectors too and if they get a sense of being conned they will stay away. Case in point was the big quote in the movie ads "A great action adventure, a film not just for the fans" then in small print the quote comes from editor of star trek magazine. If they try that desperate sort of stunt it will backfire. Just make a great film with action story and great looking actors. And Shatner. |

Nemesis tanked because, to be blunt, it was almost a beat for beat ripoff of Star Trek II. Besides veering dangerously close to outright plagiarism, many of its "trailer moments" were horribly contrived, such as the "dune buggy" sequence. Many others were jaw-droppingly ignorant of continuity -- having already found one dangerously unstable prototype android from Data's creator -- Lore -- the last thing any sensible person would do is power up another prototype, especially one they found on a rock crawling with hostiles.
Nemesis was, in short, an insult, and people don't reward insults with the financial backing to take another shot at it. I've said the same of Enterprise -- apologies to Enterprise and Nemesis fans, but the results of those two installments prove me out, like it or not.
