too many cooks, less is more, x3 sucked... these are just a few well known proverbs that suggest we should minimize pleasing fan boys at the cost of a good story.

I think Stewart already denied that he was having anything to do with the new film. If I recall, he said that the new movie had nothing to do with TNG characters.

I am always amazed at the wild theories people come up with!

If you are trying to reboot Star Trek muddying the water with TNG characters doesn't make any sense.

JJ & Co. were very smart to limit the connection to previous Star Trek endeavors to one character, Spock, and focus on the new imaging / stories of the original crew.
