Of course there will be some that will make the DVD anyway but if you write say a three hour story then cut it down to a two hour movie you risk it not working at all. in which case any follow up will make minimal sales.
It's a nice thought though.
I agree with your man here. I mean its not a book, and all the star trek books are crap anyway, but thats beside the point. It'll be about 2 hours long and have a few deleted scenes like Nemesis. No added stuff, i mean, they might to some stupid game on the disc as alot of things are, but no, it'll just be the normal Star Trek stuff.

If they did decide to do an extended version it would be when all 3 films had come out and they put all of the stuff they cut together and make it into a trillogy or something. Also what they might do is a box set of every film so far and the new one.

I would like to see bloopers on a DVD.

Plus, I can already hear the announcer guy on TV saying "Buy the Un-Rated Directors cut collectors edition today on DvD and HD-DVD"!

I would love extended versions of some of the Trek movies, I think, depending on what is cut, this movie could be the same.

I would always like to see a longer extended ersion as it is more "new Trek" however I would like to see a film that is quick, slick and fun, with the right amount of every to please everybody (including the fans) so they will make more,

I still think they film extra scenes these days so they can have "cut scenes" for a DVD release.

Well, I'm not sure they 'overshoot' simply to have DVD bonus material. On the other hand, production of films almost always shoot more scenes for the story than will end up on-screen... mainly because of the theory that you can't tell how the story shapes up UNTIL you edit it. And they better shoot it while the cast and crew are assembled, because you can't always go back and shoot large scenes later.

This is why, time and again, you'll hear commentary tracks or read stories about directors/writers including scenes they are almost sure will not make the final cut... but they dare not take a chance of not filming them, then find out in the editing room the scene (or part of it) is actually needed to make the story work for clarity, or pacing, etc.

Often, their first instincts about such scenes are correct though, and the scene they thought wouldn't survive a final cut doesn't, because they slow the film down, or one previous scene explained the other scene well enough. Voila, deleted scenes!
