I say: Star Trek has been around for a long, long time. The people who will like it? Already do like it. Turn your back on the ones who do gambling for the ones who might, and you might as well just call it quits. The Coca-Cola company learned that lesson in the '80s and learned it hard. Paramount should have learned it already, but apparently they're either too dense or too greedy for the lesson to have gotten through.

Too greedy?
Do you think they produce movies to please fans or to earn money for their stockholders? You need to understand that before you apply as marketing expert

And who says they have DONE this with the new film? Besides you, I mean.

You make these statements like you've already seen the film, which of course is impossible, for starters.

Their acting, for sure! An example: Brandon Routh has a lot of physical appearance similarities in common with Christopher Reeve, part of thereason why he took the role of Superman in Superman Returns. He just couldn't pull it off, though--it was all in personality (or in this case, the lack of it).

I'd say there is a combination that has to be hit right in order for this to work, and it's going to take good actors in order for that to be dialed into.

Good point Mission, but this is a last straw for Trek in many ways. This film does not do well, it's the end of this franchise.

These statements of mine are based on three things: The leaked photos/plot hints, which for me just like apparently for everyone else indicate a reboot; the past performance of an aborted attempt at reboot (i.e. Enterprise); and my knowledge and skill as a writer myself. Simple equation:

They tried A; not only was A not good for the franchise, A was bad for the franchise. They're about to try an even bigger dose of A. It ain't hard to guess the outcome -- unless of course you really, really refuse to give the obvious answer just because you don't like it.

Well, I don't like the answer to that equation, either, but I'm not going to shy away from speaking it.
