It is a movie, not a catwalk.
I think the idea conveyed by the question was not so much the attractiveness of the actors but how much they resembled the original actors, and lets face it, apart from Nichelle and Grace Lee no one was wnning any beauty contests.

Consider what we already know. None of these characters are recreating what the original cast did so don't get too attached to seeing Kirk-Point-Two on screen. I know you wanted "acting" or "looks" but IMO both of these things are secondary to "writing" and "design."

If this movie isn't Star Trek enough for me I'm not blaming Quinto, Zaldana or Pine, I'm blaming Orci, Kurtzman, and foremost, Abrams. I want Kirk to say the same things he always did. I don't really care HOW he says it. I want a strong written chemistry between all the characters to show through. Granted, it takes a great actor to do this well but it takes an even better director to know when they've nailed it.

I agree with you about the writing part. However, when you mention design I take it you're referring to the sets and things like that. Well, yes that is important, however if that's a totally different thing. You could have good actors with crappy designs, and I wouldn't even put the actors in the same category as that.

Actually I was referring to character design. In that they bear the same trademark aesthetics as the originals. Don't care if they look like them entirely. You can make anyone into Spock (within reason), all it takes is a good team of costume/makeup designers.

Also, on a side note, this will be the first time in history an entirely new Star Trek cast has their debut on the big screen. All the other casts were given some weening time on our home sets. Most of the casts (i'm looking at YOU Voyager, DS9 & Enterprise) needed that weening time as their first seasons' worth of acting was atriocious!

Acting. A good actor can make you believe they look like anything.
