Carlin's act (and attitude) changed a lot from the 60s to the 80s, and from the 80s to the end of his career. Same guy, same point of view, but filtered from quite different angles.

His last HBO shows couldn't have been less like Al Sleet, the hippy dippy weather man -- nor should they have duplicated it. But that is one very broad spectrum of comedy style and content!

I only saw Carlin in person once...a gazillion years ago when I was 13...

This is perhaps off topic, but the other week, Mike Ambrose, former weatherman for Channel 10 in San Diego died...he had been friends with Carlin from childhood and was, in fact, the inspiration for "the hippy dippy weatherman"...the year I saw Carlin, he appeared with Ambrose to do a weather broadcast....
