With all this enthusiasm going around I don't think it will tank. There is always the possibility that it doesn't meet the high expectations we have, but I even doubt that.

BTW - did I mention that Nimoy is my hero.

Nothing stopping him, as far as we know.

But...

the man hasn't acted as anything other than himself in an Aleve commercial in sixteen years before this. As far as I know, the last thing he did was Unification. That's a long time, and I can't see him wanting to don the ears again - especially since he's made it pretty clear he's passing the character to Quinto. Heck, he gave Quinto his shirt.

Well the mere fact that he's been tempted back in front of the camera for the first time in 17 years (any commercials aside) certainly indicates to me he saw something worthwhile in it. He didn't have to do it, but he chose to.

He did some Priceline commercials with Shatner. Pretty funny ones, too.

I wouldn't get too worked up about ever seeing either one of them in a Trek adventure again after this, this is really a hand off moive.

If Zach Quinto really has been signed up for three films then I think it would be a mistake to keep including Nimoy in future film flash forwards. I agree that a hand over is important but after that the new Spock needs to be able to stand alone.

That seems most logical.
