I was saddened when Richard Harris died. He really played Dumbledore well, and was one of my all-time favorite actors. Sir Michael Gambon also does an excellent job with the role.

And Alan Rickman as Severus Snape....I could NOT imagine anyone else in the role.

I fell in love with Natalia Tena, who plays Nymphadora Tonks in Order of the Phoenix. (Turns out, she seems to be a musician too, which just doubles my amorous attitude towards her. )
Rickman is just amazing as Snape. I've long held that the role would have been utterly boring if someone like Tom Cruise had played it....you need that danger, that "woa....this dude might just kill me" feeling....

Initially I wasn't a fan of Harris's Dumbledore...then came Goblet of Fire and oh, was I missing him! Gambon just doesn't have the underlying crazy factor so comes off a bit too involved...Harris's detachment would have been very helpful in that movie. But, I didn't mind Gambon at all in Phoenix and if one can judge by a tiny trailer, he's okay in Half Blood Prince (though....when I read Dumbledore's promises to tell Harry the story of what happened to his arm, I hear Harris's voice...). I so adore Maggie Smith as McGonagal....sadly, she has almost nothing to do in the next movie, but she has a substantial role in Deathly Hallows.

Thank you for explaining it to him. It's important to remember that this board does allow for 13-17 year olds (many HP boards insist on 21 and up!) so we need to keep in mind that they might not have all our oldster's naughty terminology at the ready....(noting that "legal" was exactly what I meant when I said the "kids" being 18 opened up much more interesting possibilities for thought)

Something I love about reading the Potter books is that I can actually put either Harris' or Gambon's voice to Dumbledore, indeed, as I can put Radcliffe's to Harry, Emma's to Hermione, Rupert's to Ron, Rickman's to Snape. To me, that's just how indelible they are to their roles.

And even though I'm relatively young, I admit, mentioning that I can say I find Emma easy on the eyes because she's now legal....I feel like a dirty old man.

Richard Harris was born to play Dumbledore, shame we lost him.

Indeed.

And another one of my favorite actors died just after Gladiator was completed.... Oliver Reed.

The film also starred Richard Harris.

The hubby hold that Daniel Day Lewis would have been a better Snape. I can see his point, but I think Lewis would be too good looking for the part.
