Also, pick one authoritative source for the "official" box office numbers of the film -- that'll avoid a lot of debate over whose numbers count when reports come in.

No, I said "authoritative", not "amateurish"!

Don't worry, I have Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman all on speed dial. I will call them up 1. January 00.01 and ask them if they can provide me with right numbers

Will you use your old ground test computer to call them?

US/Canada - $80 million, RotW - $30 million, WW - $110 million.

Once the cinemas have taken their share of the gross and governments take their share through sale taxes, it'll leave Paramount with a loss between $160-190 million.

Gross Prediction;

USA - $186 million
Rest of World - $148 million
Total - $334 Million

Based on the general principle that a pic must gross double it's budget to break even the new ST film should be moderately profitable from it's threatical release and even more profitable after the DVD release.

If JJ has max success in broadening the fan base with a film that is excellent on it's own merits apart from the Star Trek content then it could transcend into a mega hit and cros the $200 million dollar mark both domestically and worldwide for a culm total of 400 million.

You expect it to thoroughly bomb? Or is it a gag?
