Given the horror that is the Padres, my husband now stops all Padre discussion with "The Chargers start their season in 4 weeks"....

The preseason game this week looks good....Chargers vs. Cowboys...if everyone lives up to expectations it could be a preview of the Superbowl.

Rivers rocks. I love the "angry young men" in some sports positions and Charger Quarterback certainly can benefit from an "angry young man"....

I could normally take it or leave it. My wife is the football fan, but she did get me into the Giants this past year. The evening of the Superbowl, she dragged me and our then 19 month old son out at 11:00 PM to go to The Sports Authority where they were selling the Championship shirts and sweat tops. So now, I'll watch it but for me, baseball is it!

See...I had the opposite experience. I grew up loving football. By 9 I could throw a spiral...my Dad and I went to all the games.

Baseball was boring.

Then, I reached the age of drinking and baseball had a purpose: an excuse to hang around in the sun watching pretty men run about while drinking beer...

but, my then future husband was a true fan of baseball...and, as happens in relationships, I got interested...

now, I'm the one who listens to the pregame show on the radio and watches the post game analysis....

But I still love my football!

(It's barely possible that I have an addictive personality....)

A lot of times, when I'm in a roomful of my friends who are having rabid sports discussions about their favorite teams, and who'll do good this year, who'll eat more dirt than a dead man, or what not.....and they really start getting passionate about it.....I can throw their conversations off kilter every time with one simple phrase:

"Guys....it's just a game."
