The closest I've ever been to an earthquake was 30 years ago when one struck a town in New Jersey called Cheesequake (I'm not kidding)! It was maybe a 3-something on the Richter so I never felt anything 25 miles away in New York.

was not bad , it was harder than we had in a while. Phone lines when down. I could not get through to my family ther everyone could call me. I know it was not big and I don't get scared but. I guess having a baby changes things. Hubby and me where on our bed feeding the baby when it him. My poor dogs started to run down the hall barking like if someone was trying to break in. Hubby took the baby into his arms and we got to the doorway and called our dogs. It was longer that we thought. Living in the inland empire and closed to the big fault, it kinda scared me since it is the first large one I felt since I moved out here.

The news says cell phone usage went up 200 times than normal on Tuesday and totally clogged the system. Most people, like me, only have a cell phone at the apartment and not a land line. I have a land line at work but my co-workers said they were having trouble calling out on the company phones.

The news talked to the representatives of phones companies, like Verizon, about the communication problems and what they plan to do about it. They say that are not going to expand their infrastructure for rare occurrences ... hmm. You know that "can you hear me now" ad campaign... they need to add... only doesn't work right after major earthquakes.

They recommend and encourage people to learn how to text on their phones because the majority of cell phone users don't text message and the data lines were actually clear. Did anybody text on their cell phone right after the earthquake??? I AIM'd people on my desk computer but I don't like texting on my little old phone.
