Trilogies always seem to fall into this pattern:

#1 BEST MOVIE EVER

#2 Ummm... that sucked

#3 Ok, but not as good as one.

For evidence see Back to the Future, Star Wars (Well number 1 sucked as well), and a whole other list that I can't think of right now.

For all we know, it takes 3 movies to save Kirk...

But I say we judge this film on it's own merits, not other franchises that have come before.

Exactly! It's not all about having unlimited budget to throw onto the screen! You have to have ideas supporting it.

But as an aside to another earlier comment I thought Back to the Future 2 was a brilliant sequel, it was so packed with ideas and twists and the idea of going back into the first film and seeing it from another perspective was really clever. I think it's one of the most unusal sequels ever!

To put in polite terms " HECK YAH THERE BETTER BE A SEQUEL "

I really dont see star trek being thrown in the dirt for a very very very very very long time. hopefully never , if it is up to me. Paramount is kind to star trek. They take care of what is important to the public.
I see good things for years to come.

with star trek , it keeps going and going ..

I would have to disagree. Back to the Future Part II was by far the best one out of the three.

II had the benefit of not having to introduce charaters, plot, establish technology, ect.

Three would be great but like everyone else has said...it won't happen unless they think they can make a buck.
