While they will keep some elements from TOS (the sliders should stay because they're iconic, and the 'tube' pads), I don't expect it to remain too similar -- mostly because I doubt they'll keep the color schemes of TOS.

I would like to see the color scheme stay, while all panels, equipment is updated. pushy buttons and plastic radar grids don't do it for me.

Nothing but guess work -- I just don't think they'll replicate the 60s stylings of TOS that closely because it can't help but look either dated or like a TV show of the period. An updated version of it all would be cool, but I don't think they'll go as retro as some fans might enjoy -- needs of the many outweighing the desires of a few, etc.

Plus they might well want to be more original in creating their own look than borrowing too much from any one era of design.

KJ's mix above sounds quite possible.

I suspect the radar hood on the console won't survive

I donno, the ENT epiosdes with the TOS Defiant shows the look still works onscreen.

The more I think about it and the more still pics I see from TOS, the more I realize that as much as I adore the iconic classic looks of things from 40 years ago, there will have to be some updating to make things look believable from a 2009 audience POV. Hey we've been spoiled by the special effects and high budgets of movies in the 21st century. If things looked too much like the 1960s, I'm sure there would be people asking for their money back. I guess I'm speaking mostly about the sets and external shots.

There are things I def do NOT want changed, like my beloved phaser and communicator. But maybe I'm just being selfish here.
