Yo..!
We appreciate what you have done. Really, we do. But come on. It took me 20 minutes to download and install the stupid Apple updates required just to watch the trailer in HD and it didn't even work. Even worse, clicking though to it means opening up endless non-respnsive windows. Apple is the "Cool company of the moment" and all but everyone knows that Windows Media works so much better. All you needed to do was to offer links to the various different clips and formats of WMV without all of the "noise" the quicktime player brings to the pc. Just my 2 cents |

My guess is that Apple pays to be the exclusive media player for a particular new movie trailer.

I Agree. It's Much Easier To Use Than Quicktime.

Quicktime is a bit of a pain.

Just wait until the Enterprise installs apple as it's computer. It will probably be a man's voice.

Well, if the QT HD player didn't work after you installed it, then your system must not meet the minimum requirements for its use (which are explained BEFORE you download it). That or you have out-of-date drivers on your system, which are not the responsibility of QT either.
It's true that Apple does obtain at least temporary exclusivity on many trailers when they debut. That's nothing new nor unique to TREK. I know a lot of users don't like QT for one reason or another... can't blame them. Until recently, WinMedia vid files sucked in comparison for quality and such, but that gap has closed since and the difference is tiny at best now. More importantly, this has nothing to do with "StarTrekMovie.com programmers", since such media distribution deals are made with the studio, not people who built this site. If anything, complain to Paramount... though it won't help, since this deal is already done. With luck, by next spring the trailer and videos will be available in other formats as well for user choice.

I found that I was unable to view the HD trailer when I approached it with IE6 (which is all my work computer can handle). I installed Opera and was able to see the HD trailer. I don't know if that's a viable answer for others, but there you go.
