I need a suggestion to finish off a corner of a bed. Right now I've got some huge sedums, some hostas, echinachea, a Russian sage, and some decorative sedge. What I need is something tall w/ purple flowers that likes half a day of sun and half a day of shade. Any ideas?

Have you considered Jacobs Ladder? Great with shade, although it doesn't get all that tall. The flower stalks go up maybe 1-2 ft.

That will look sweet around the hostas! I think I'll try that to "fill in the gaps" up the bed. Thank you!

You're definitely welcome! I was just at the Paine Art Center and Gardens nearby, and we were looking around at the flowers; I was thinking of something to say more to help you! My mother suggested Flox as a bushy alternative that would get significantly taller than Jacob's Ladder.

Yeah! My dad has a bad back, so bending over to pick beans is a chore for him. This year we bought climbing beans though, and put them on a fence.

My mom does TONS of canning. we have a fruit cellar in the basement (it's a 100 year old house) where all the good stuff goes. Pickles, pickled beets, tomato juice, jams, relish, canned peaches, pickled beans, uh, yeah! Oh, and just a few days ago I got to hoe the garden!
