Default New rules... Good? Bad?

It seems that the Trek forum has had a major change in their rules. No more can we discuss "hot button" topics. Do you guys think these new rules are a good idea?

I'm not sure... it seems as though we're being denied the chance to discuss real world stuff, and are being encouraged to keep all discussions on a "If Piccard Fought Kirk, Who Would Win?" level...

Yeah. So, lets announce the most conservative character in Trek. Or the most socialist species. What would happen if one would cross Vulcan Ideologists with Faux Klingon Warmongers.

I think they just want to make sure these boards here dont become a place for political campaigns.

It doesn't bother me. I come here to get away from all the seriousness and controversy for a while. If I want political debate and such, there's no shortage of other sites I can visit

Well, they've already gone too far in my mind. They closed a forum that was perfectly calm in its debate over the don't ask/ don't tell policy of the US military. If there isn't a problem, don't fix it!

Wha... that was locked? Seriously? Well then this board would really be back to the usual "be cosy" policy of most Star Trek boards. See you then one day .

PS: No, its still open and running. Here...

I thought we were all adult enough to monitor ourselves. Whatever happened to freedom of speech? Just take a look at the post count on the Off-Topic threads- that should tell you enough that we enjoy talking to each other about other things as well as TREK. One of the reasons Trekkies are usually teased is because they're only interested in one thing. Well, we've broken the mold on that one.

I say balls to the new rules!

Let's start bunches of new threads that talk about completely explicitly banned topics!!!

let's see:

Horgah'ns

Neo-Nazis in Trek

Kill all Non Humans

Racial Purity...

Actually those weren't bad, but still we could go on and on, and overload the Admins!

The new rules suck.

I do have some sympathy for not allowing political sig's and avatars, they're hard to avoid if that's what you want. But if people have a problem with the threads they should be mature enough to just not click on them in the first place.
