I think we may talking about the difference between the single and album versions of the track. See here.

Ok, you are partially right!! After looking it up, the song was re-recorded by John Kay and the then (1996) line up of Steppenwolf.

I do stand corrected, yes it was Steppenwolf, but the original 1968 version was not used.

Cool to know!!! Thanks Cabo!!

Actually my favorite soundtrack would be the 30th anniversary one with all the themes, and selections from all the series. Beautiful Music. Plus the Inner Light suite is on there.

I routinely put that song on a CD when I'm burning someone a relax/meditate/calm CD. About a week later I go drop the bomb that the beautiful flute piece.... That's from a Star Trek episode. People are always astounded. Well Non trekies that is. My trekkie friends just thank me to pieces for having that song.

I loved the FC soundtrack. It always makes me feel hopeful, and is the only one of any of the soundtracks that I feel something when listening to it.

I think my fiance has that CD. The Inner Light Suite is one of my favorite pieces of all time - and he's the one who introduced me to it.

I voted for the First Contact soundtrack. I can't exactly put my finger on why, but I've always loved the music from that movie. Its actually on my list of "Favorite Soundtracks Ever". Unfortunately I've never had the pleasure of owning it. I think its the mix of driving rhythms and sweeping orchestral pieces and the peaceful ballads that I just love. I absolutely enjoy the main theme from the beginning.

I do love Jerry Goldsmith and most of his work. And I thank him heartily for the theme from TMP that became the theme to TNG. And... well... he's responsible for a piece from Nemesis that will be appearing at our wedding (you'll have to wait until January to find out how ;-) ) The world lost someone special when he died.

Must admit I'm not a big fan of the Star Trek soundtracks. I own one (coincidentally the Nemesis soundtrack) that I picked up for some background atmospheric music for running a roleplay game.
Apart from one or two stand-out tracks (the main theme is still great when it kicks in) it tends to blur into one.
Thinking about it, Lateral Run is a good piece, but I'm guessing not your weedding choice? I'll have to listen to it later see if I can guess!

If we're talking about orchestral film soundtracks in general, I can happily sit and listen to all the Lord of the Rings trilogy (you can pretty much follow the story in the music) and The Piano (some incredibly beautiful pieces on there).
oh, and Firefly

Can't say I own a copy of any soundtracks at all, so I'm going by simply trying to recall from the films. Gonna vote for VI I think.

Must confess to not having seen LotR or The Piano, so can't comment on those, strangely brown. The series Firefly had some good backing music, as Serenity did too though, must agree there
