Rad, you might look back at our previous discussions (at length) on this subject.

The short version boils down to: you/we play by Paramount's rules when we sign up for membership on this official STAR TREK board. Violation of those terms cause the moderators to take action as necessary and appropriate under the studio's guidelines.

The fact that such unauthorized photos were shown elsewhere is irrelevant to that point -- and indeed, most of the other sites which had displayed these photos were ordered by the studio to remove them, which they did. Photos, videos and such are the property of Paramount and they control how they are distributed, where and when.

You ask why the studio doesn't authorize these photos. Because the photos were taken illegally on the set, so they are unauthorized by definition, and so is their distribution. Paramount gets to decide what they approve and what they don't -- there's really no way around that. At least, not on this board.

We agree to play by Paramount's rules here, and this case shows them in effect. You may find the mods are quite lenient here, not to mention interested in the movie and possessing good senses of humor, so enjoy!

A great recap there Mission!

I'm not complaining about the photos being taken down that as you said was dictated by paramount. I'm complaining about the studios extreme stinginess as far as film material goes and the fact that even non threatening pictures of partially completed sets are immediately banned by Paramount. Not a very good way to build fan support I would think.

I get you, trust me. But keep in mind that the release date change has emphasized the long wait for new marketing material: if May 2009 had always been the original release date, not only would we have LESS material to discuss and complain about than we do now, we wouldn't be worrying about the lack of released photos and such because the marketing for TREK would not even have BEGUN this early.

So if you look at it one way, the release date change from December is the only reason we have a teaser or ANYTHING from the film to discuss. If May had been the original release date, we would probably only NOW see the teaser trailer.

Paramount's proceeding on their own schedule to preserve as much of the film's surprises, integrity and value as long as it can. We're still 296 days away from the release. Will we get new photos, news and video as soon as fans want it? Of course not. Will we get it when it benefits this crucial film the most? You can bet on it.

Jerhanner, this board really doesn't have mods, it has Administrators. Red Shirt seems to be the most active (and as a result, has become our "go to" person!) participating in threads and generally being fun. Mission Trek is not a mod or an admin, he's just very knowledgable about how boards are run.
