Yep, that's not an unreasonable assumption, but he sometimes plays smaller roles in big films too (I, Robot & National Treasure 2 for example).

My hope is that they will use a variety of props to represent the whole timeline being covered by the movie. The TOS phaser as we know it really didn't come into being until after WNMHGB, even though The Man Trap aired before it. I agree it would be a minor issue to break (here's that word again) canon and retain one style throughout the whole movie. If one prop version had to win, I would think it would be the more modern versions just because of size convenience and overall usability.

I'm not a big fan of that particular communicator. Not that other TOS props didn't look like things out of the garage of the house I grew up in... the homemade ham radio won't do it.

But in the 60's they did look futuristic. I could see a scene where they are changing over from them.

Pike:"I don;t know number one, these new designs."

Number One:"Well Capatin, I find them more estecially pleasing, and ergononomic, than our old equipment,"

So reading these posts leads me to believe that you guys think ST XI will have a retro feel. Do you think that they will go that route and make it more kitsch?

I think there will be alot of little "nods of the hat" in that way, or at least hope there is.

I still think the fact that Bruce Greenwood is playing him hints at a fairly major role. Hey, a longtime fan can dream....right?
I kind of hope we also see a lot of Pike in action during the movie. I have a sneaky suspicion (not based on any rumors/reports) that Kirk won't be promoted to Enterprise captain until near the end of STXI.

I just feel for much of the movie we are going to see the reasons behind Kirk the young hero/legend and then Starfleet deciding to make him the youngest captain in Starfleet history.

I also get the feeling that Kirk and Spock won't exactly "hit it off" right away.

But alas, I digress from the original subject of the post. I'm nostalgic and a traditionalist. I like the look of the Pikes' laser and communicator but I also won't mind if they spice up the designs a bit.

What you don't want typewriter keys as control knobs? (They were on the originals)
