Default Kelley, Doohan, Koenig & Ellison on Tom Snyder

Heh...the system isn't liking me. Here are links to a Tom Snyder interview with De Kelley, James Doohan, Walter Koenig and Harlan Ellison in advance of production of the first Star Trek Movie...pretty entertaining stuff...plus, you will so be thinking "Dan Akyroyd"

I'm impressed that the cast seem to know so much about the technology and minutia that we ourselves obsess over. Doohan was very insightful when he predicted a long series of movies being produced as long as the quality of each subsequent film was good.

Isn't Doohan great? As I noted, the system was hating me last night...despite the fact I had no pictures, my lengthy discussion of the show was declared unpostable due to the fact I had 14 images.....I sort of threw my hands in the air and said "oh, well".

But, I was so impressed with Doohan and I really thought he held his own with Ellison.

Jimmy was a wonderful to see in person at his lecture. He treated Scotty like an old freind. he was so warm and personable, and had so many jokes. He talked about acting on radio, his other film work, JoSC, TAS.

He stayed to give autographs to everybody who wanted them!!

Yeah, he was my favorite speaker too. Nichelle was good, but the audience for her was sort of creepy (they kept acting like she was the only African American actress who should ever have gotten any role..."You should have been Claire Huxtable" and stuff like that).

I met Jimmy Doohan when he gave a lecture at my college in 1986 coinsciding with the release of The Voyage Home. I actually had a biology exam that evening that preventing me from attending his talk but as luck would have it, I found out that he was at the campus bar (where else) getting "loosened up" before the talk. I ran over there from the library with my bio text and after he autographed it for me (I still have it) I got to spend 20-30 minutes with him just talking about stuff like his days on the radio, his time flying in the Royal Canadian Artillery, and how much he loved being a part of ST. He was so easy going and fun. I remember him saying "An exam? At night?? How dare they!" after I told him why I was going to miss his talk. Ah well, there was my brush with greatness.
