I'd like to see a remake of this show. Maybe call it Space 2199. Probably really take us that long to get back to the moon. I didn't enjoy season 2 as much but season 1 was awesome.

Nah. I'd rather spend the money on doing something else... something BETTER. You know, like a science fiction show that actually has some SCIENCE in it. I've always thought that the idea of blasting the Moon out of orbit, and it passing a new planet every week to be about as stupid and inept as you can get.
If you want to do as how about a lunar base, them here's the flipside: How about this Space: 2199 being about a lunar base that has to survive after the Earth becomes uninhabitable due to an all out atomic war? (At least THAT could actually happen.)

Space: 1999 always struck me as something of a contradiction. It had 2001: A Space Odyssey-quality production designs and special effects, but a completely silly premise and frequently outlandish stories.
I'd rather a remake/reimagining ditch the now overused "lost in space/trying to find a new home" idea and just deal with space travel in the year 2099 or 2199. I'd definitely would be against that nutty idea of the Moon being blasted out of Earth orbit--intact, mind you--and through a conveniently nearby wormhole to the otherside of the universe (still intact, oddly enough). I think a more simplified general premise can bring forth more character-based stories and a lot of other typical sci-fi stories such as the discovery of something alien on the Moon and perhaps a government (or alien) conspiracy to cover it up--with the crew of Moonbase Alpha caught in the crossfire.

I always wondered what would have happened to the Earth after our moon left orbit. To see what would have happened to the weather, the tides, gravitational fields, etc. The Six Million Dollar Man once did an episode where the moon's orbit was simply shifted by an explosion and the result was devastating on Earth's climate. Steve Austin had to cause another explosion to correct the orbit... OK, that was far fetched, but at least the writers were thinking.

The problem with 1999, aside from the bone-headed premise, was the fact that the writing was so terrible. As an example, look at "Voyager Returns"... in it, we see the poor, tortured soul of Prof. Queller, who was inavertantly responsible for killing several hundred people, including the parents of his lab assistant.
Okay, good. But, instead of focusing on the conflict between these two guest characters, the episode keeps rehashing that decision to try and stop V-1 before it reaches the moon... "You're going to risk all of our lives..." Helena says to Konig (at least four times!) instead of the two characters being able to confront the past and bury the hatchet... A missed opportunity. Just crappy writing...
