The Art Asylum figures are the best ones I've ever seen. So realistic looking.

The problem with Art Asylum is that it's catering to an established market.
Playmates will bring it to the mass market. It's too bad, really. A collaboration between the two would be perfect. Art Asylum's quality and attention to detail, with Playmates' distribution and marketing. |

As long as Diamond Select/Art Asylum is still making ships from past movies and TV shows I am happy. I dont buy actions figures but I might pick up a prop toy or two from Playmates. Unless Playmates can show otherwise their interpretation is way off. I mean the Phoenix was dark and light gray with a HINT of white. When I took the Phoenix warp ship out of the box it was white, looks like it came right out of China and neglected to get painted in a few spots. Then I though it might be a fake knockoff, then I realized no..this piece of junk is the real deal. If Masterreplicas is still making star trek stuff ill buy that, a replica prop over a toy.

Ok I understand the mass-market thing, no problem, but ah just the lack of detail and total disregard for accurate reproduction bothered me. What’s wrong with making it look good? Art Asylum not only caters to the established market but a niece market looking for accurate reproductions your proud to put on your shelf because you can admire then as well as friends and guests, happened enough for me. Look at the Enterprise D by Playmates, the deflector dish is red and your telling me they could not have made it blue resembling the actual color? The colors of the ships are way off as well. Playmates Enterprise D and Voyager were a light blue color, which is wrong because the ships were gray.
Playmates fine mass-market but take a page from Art Asylums book. |

Hopefully Playmates gets it right. We'll just have to wait and see.
