To tell you the truth when it comes to playmates they make toys and the toys they make are not very detailed. I collected every one of the Star Trek starships made by playmates. When Art Asylum brought out ships I bought one of them. When I saw the detail on the ship from Art Asylum I sold my playmates ships on ebay! Art Asylum captured the colors, shapes, and details of the star ships Playmates never did. Playmates makes toys, I want nice collectable models. If playmates is making the star ship models simply ad some more detail and look very closely at the ships and please make acceptable replicas.
As long as companies like Art Asylum and Master Replicas are still aloud to make Star Trek collectables along with the TOYS Playmates toys then I have no problems. The toys by Playmates like the tricoder, phaser, and transport were fine, but when it came to the ships models I was very disappointed. Again Playmates makes great toys but lousy replicas. Just google Playmates ships or star trek and then google Art Asylum star trek ships and compare the original 1701 or the 1701 E. You will see how much more detail Art Asylum has on their ships. Playmates put out two versions of the Enterprise E and they still looked nothing like the bloody ship! Art Asylum got it right the first time!!!!!!! Art Asylum also put out beautiful models of the 1701 A, three versions of the original enterprise, NX 01, and I heard they are also working on a Miranda class ship. |

I will admit that Playmates wasn't the most detailed of toys and AA/DST phaser just rocks. One thing that is important is that Playmates will be getting the toys out there. AA/DST has had the license for some time now and all we keep getting is a re-paint of the same damn phaser. Playmates was putting out Trek Tech at a rate of at least 2 different a year. Sure there OS Tricorder was a joke but the Next Gen stuff was tight. The ships were ok. I actually just sold all of mine and there is still a market for them so they couldn't be that bad.

Hopefully Playmates has improved the quality of their toys since they lost the license. But if Paramount wants to promote the crap out of this film (and it sounds like they do), it makes more sense to go with Playmates, who can get their toys in everywhere, versus Art Asylum, who didn't win any fans among the mass-marketers with their Nemesis and Enterprise lines, and is generally geared for limited runs and direct-marketing.

If Playmates make more MicroMachines I let them do whatever they want.

Here's a little info on the toy line from the UK Toyfair that might interest you. No pics, but some descriptions of the early prototypes.

I miss those lil things, they were good.
and like mentioned, playmates get out there a lot more and thus make more mhoney for the film ! plus they are bringing out a bridge set apparently.
