Default dental work today

so, I had to get a crown today. It's a temporary one.

They numbed me up good and drilled and ground away at my tooth so it looked like this:

I was like "wow, some people actually get their teeth to look like that on purpose!"

They then had to take an impression of the leftover tooth. They had to do that like 4 or 5 times because of various flaws in the mold and again because the end product came back too thick because they didn't take into account my overbite.

Since then, I haven't been able to get the smell of burning tooth out of my nose.

yeah...been there.... actually, been worse. My most recent dental adventure involved a broken tooth that had previously had a root canal...so they drilled a hole in my JAW, then cemented a steel post in my jaw to build the "crown" around.... I just have to tell you....when they put the cute little dental drills down and pick up the Craftsman drill, it's a different experience.

But, I feel for you! I do!

Eeeeeep! I would have demanded gas AND novacaine!

A word of dental advice - even if you're too lazy to floss the rest of your teeth, make sure you floss around the crown, cause you don't want a root canal, or at least that's what my dentist told me.

I've never had a crown that wasn't over a root canal...so, sort of confused. But I haven't had a lot of dental work...it's just been spectacular when it's happened.

In this case it was a root canal done over 20 years ago....but my insurance at the time wouldn't pay for a crown, just a big filling....

When it crumbled in my tuna sandwich (YUCK!) I had to have it addressed again and the fix was to put in a post and treat it like a crown...

I didn't get gas but I got more novacaine than I thought a human could stand...9 shots. I was numb beyond my hairline.

The tooth was broken, but not all the way through. One of those ones where you poke it with your tongue all day!

The crown didn't make a really good seal around what was left of my own tooth and over time stuff would get caught and I started to get an infection at the tip of the root. Now I have a gold crown with a silver alloy plug in it...not cute.

9 shots? Yipes! Makes my jaw ache just thinking of it.

jerhanner...it was toast! I guess there was something left...but when they wanted to find a "model" they had to look to other teeth.. It wasn't just that the tongue wanted to go there, it's that there wasn't a tooth left to look at....

trekkiemom, I'm here for you! Bad crowns suck! I suspect that many crowns are not of US origin and so...well...not so great sometimes....

Tell everyone you're a pirate... I swear, it will work on anyone under 20.
