Do NOT eat them... in fact, handle them only with rubber gloves. I'm not entirely sure, but they appear to be similar to a type known as "the angel of death"... they secrete a nerotoxin. Wrap them very carefully in a plastic bag, and dispose of them as you would anything else poisonous.

They MIGHT be harmless, but the number of toadstools out there far exceeds the safe to eat variety.

Would burning them do it?

Agreed, don't eat them, handle with extreme care and take action to see that they don't come back. Shrooms like moisture so find out what they're soaking up and dry it out. This isn't just about you MPQ...pets and children can be seriously harmed by wild mushrooms.

Sorry, I'm a neurobiologist, not a mycologist

All fungi are edible. Some are not edible more than once.

Depends on the local code...

I wouldn't just flush them, or throw them into a compost pile. (that could just make matters worse) I think burning them, after letting them dry out, would be okay... or call your local dump and find out what they recommend.

Oh, and crack a window to your basement, and get a fan down there... if these things are growing there, you should see about drying the space out. (Here in the south, mold and fungus growing in crawlspaces is a major financial hit against homeowners. It can make a home unsafe to live in.)

And while I'm not a fan of chemicals, a healthy dose of Clorox can't hurt.
