That's Zardoz... always thinking!

As for Elvis, I never really understood his appeal since I grew up amid his decline in the 70s. I could understand why some of his music entered pop culture and such, but I never hooked into HIS appeal.

Then several years ago a friend of mine turned me onto VIVA LAS VEGAS, which I'd never seen but enjoyed quite a bit, as a light piece of fluff to be sure. And Ann Margret, but I'm a sucker for women in the '60s.

It must have been around either E's birthday or 'deathday' celebrations, because they'd just released the re-edited Elvis documentary, and I found it fascinating to watch him work at his height as a live entertainer. I finally got it about the Big E, then started exploring his music.

Around the same time I did the same thing with Frank, Dean and Sammy. Fun stuff!

"She likes Elvis,
She likes Andy,
She's just as pretty as can be.
She's the number one fan of old Graceland and,
Mayberry R.F.D..
She ain't a southern belle,
But it's hard to tell,
She's got every quality.
She likes Elvis,
She likes Andy,
And she's fine and dandy with me!"

Well Elvis pre army is his best, raw stuff..real early rock music. After the Army during the movie era...not so good...until the 1968 Comeback special, a 32 yr old Elvis in leather singing rock tunes on TV (32 was OLD for a rocker in '68), but after that..again decline...

And Wynonna....

There's just something about her and a gutair....

Btw, the documentary I couldn't remember before was the 2001 re-edited and remastered THAT'S THE WAY IT IS, originally shot in 1970 leading up to his Vegas appearance at the International Hotel.

Agreed, it's not his lean-and-mean '68 Comeback special, but it's likely the last good look at him in Vegas before he hit the skids and his show turned into self-parody.

Certainly his early music was better than this era, but he still clings to some of his personal charm and talent at this point, which is about as early I can remember back of his career.
