I just figured it was plot contrivance in order for Data to heroically save Picard and sacrifice himself, there had to be no other way for either or both of them to be rescued, plus since half the ship had been obliterated in the ramming of the Scimitar and what was left had been under heavy fire it's not so far fetched that the ship was simply helpless at that time.

When I watched Nemesis, I always thought either Lavar wasn't "into it" or Geordi just seemed to not care the whole movie. I'm usually pro-nemesis, but never liked the way they did his character.

Can we even COUNT all the times that Kirk would be dead if Scotty displayed the same attitude that Geordi did in Nemesis?

I always thought there should have been a scene between Data and Geordi, like, in the turbolift on the way to blow Data out into space or something.

I could not agree more with you on this.

I suppose the only thing with that is that is would foreshadow his death, and he didn't know he was going to die when he went to the scimitar, it was only once he got there they realised for sure. Sometimes death comes unexpectedly and there is no chance for a final scene - I accept Nemesis nor it's director were quite subtle enough to maybe put that across but that's what I took it for. A snap decision by Data to save Picard over himself.

Which, alongside the experience of death itself completes Data's journey from Encounter at Farpoint. The only way his story could end was with death, just unfortunate it came in Nemesis.
