Nothing, really. An occasional tiny tiny tiny earthquake, a Cat. 1 tornado every 40 years. Plus, we've got lots of water. Upstate NY is the place to be!

Flash flood season is over here in SoCal, so it's on to wildfire season (and we're expecting another bad season, I hear). As noted, earthquakes are a relatively rare phenomenon, though we've had a few sizable moderate ones in my lifetime, the Northridge quake being the most violent in my immediate area.

I get a laugh when people who live in seasonal tornado and hurricane country wonder how I can live in CA with the threat of earthquakes. I always reply it's because we can't point to a calendar and rely on them to show up four months of ever year.

On that note, being quite weather-deprived in SoCal, I want very much to go on a storm chasing tour in the midwest to see severe weather and perhaps a tornado myself. Never rooting for damage to property or lives, of course, but just to see 'big weather' like that for myself. The science interests me a great deal. One day...

Yes, I always get tickled by people who have a storm shelter wondering how I can live in San Diego....oh, I don't know....sun, beaches, can drive to snow in the winter if I so desire and no need for storm shelters....

We had a natural disaster last night- we went out to eat with my 23 month-old son... the waiters had to change the tablecloth twice and I think they're still cleaning rice off of the walls.

Apart from that, unless my wife goes shopping with her credit card, no other natural disasters here.

I fail to comprehend your indignation, sir. I have simply made the logical deduction that you are a liar. (Spock)

No kidding! I am in California too and these recent earthquakes hitting all over the world keep reminding me that we are overdue for another huge one.

I'm a Los Angelino... so its all been said. But I've been to Taiwan and was in a typhoon(hurricane, cyclone...same thing) Saw the eye pass over Taipei... very eerie. I hated the thunder there as a kid... they are worst there because all the buildings are brick so it echoes louder than the wooden California houses.

I forgot About our fires, since most are set by fire bugs. I live close to the San Bernardino Montains and man and gets so stuffy here, ashes everywhere, everything smells
