So would people rather JJ Abrams ignored post-production in order to pick fights with nerds on message boards? In real life, spending all your time on forums when you're meant to be working would get you fired!

Dom, I think you are getting the wrong idea here. What some suggested was he do a one time "talk to the fans on the offical movie site board."

No one suggested he be here all the time.

If you think yourself, and Trek fans are "nerds", maybe you need to rethink your admiration of Trek?

I agree with you Zardoz, like Jackson is doing with the new Hobbit films, he is holding a web debate, I think that would be cool and it doesnt have to be all the time!

Zardoz, there are still plenty of ordinary decent folk out there who like Trek and post on message boards, but to start barracking Abrams for not chinwagging on forums when he's busy is brainless nerdiness and a gift to people in the media who like to mock Trek.

Abrams has already taken part in promotional material for the film, including being interviewed on the (concealed) bridge set. Roberto Orci, the screenwriter, also regularly posts on trekmovie.com. Why should JJ Abrams, who's busy in post-production right now get into discussions with fans when the film is still a year away? What would be the point this early?

It's reckoned that the film will be 100 per cent completed by Christmas, at which time the publicity apparatus is likely to be rolled out. Then we'll start seeing trailers, interviews and (yes) even Abrams talking about the film on a forum, albeit a more mainstream media site!

Actually I think the film will be in a completed state by August, I know JJ has other projects he neds to movie on to.

Dom, expressing your opinon is one thing freind, but anger towards others for having their ideas, why? Using terms like "brainless nerdiness" towards forum members won't win you alot of freinds.

Are some of our ideas "out there?" Sure. But part of this experience is to share with others, not berate them for their veiws. Disagree, yes, but we try to keep it civil.

Oh I only insult people when they need shaking up! We're posting on a discussion thread called 'Abrams Needs To Get Off His Backside...' remember! That's a pretty offensive title and when Abrams is working his backside off, so someone needs to fight his corner.

It's easy for some overweight, jobless layabout sitting in his basement, who can only dream about getting a girlfriend, to cast aspersions on a film director who is balancing a $150 million budget. It's not so easy for someone whose career is on the line to reply.

PS My tongue is buried deep in my cheek when I post ANYTHING!!

That's good to know, some of our members might not see it as humor right off. Thnaks for clearing that up!!

Well some of the titles of these threads are done "tounge in cheek" too. Not eveything here is literal. What the originator meant was (Basically), "Why is there not more JJ pushing this film?" if you read through all the posts you can see most of us agreeed with your position.

I can say for myself, that I am far from a "jobless layabout sitting in his basement." Have a high paying job, and a hot wife to boot!!!

NICE ONE!!!! It's time for more married Trek fans and Trek fans who have boyfriends and girlfriends to emerge and kill the stereotype!

I'm digitising in an edit suite today, so I actually have time to devote to posting on a forum.

Quite honestly, I've dealt with two dying grandparents in recent years (one from Alzheimer's) and only last Saturday was sat in a chapel with my grandfather's dead body a couple of days before his funeral.

When you see stuff like that, you can get frustrated when people wig out over a piece of entertainment. I'm looking forward to this film very much, because, for me, Trek is escapism that leaves you with things to think about. It's a fun thing that enhances life. But some people take it too seriously and make stuff like Trek into their life. And that's big mistake!

My wife is not a Trek fan, but she's gone to every Trek film from 5 on with me.

Well, speaking as soemone who's lost everybody he grew up with, except for my mother, I can sympathize. As corny as it sounds, no one is truely dead unless you forget them.

Trek is great escapism, totally agree. But these charaters have become part of our lives, for many, they are like a sceond family. They care about them, they become a part of who they are. Is then any wonder they, and even I, get defensive about soemthing we love?

Please feel free to PM me if you wish to talk more about loss/mouring, I may have soem insights for you, if interested, or just a sounding board.

Mine too.

Though did you ever see the shipping news? crap film but a very good point about headlines.

12 months out from a film it's threads with titles like this that do the forum a favor by keeping it alive.
