Since they can alter perceptions who know what they can do.

How about this: The Enterprise seen in the trailer is the version prior to Christopher Pike taking command. That would explain the difference between Kirk's version.

According to Star Trek chronology:
2245-2250 The USS Enterprise, a Constitution class vessel is launched under the command of Robert April, on a five-year mission of exploration.
2251-2256 After a refit, the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) is launched on a second five-year mission under Captain Christopher Pike.

This would explain why Pike is in the new movie at all.

We know that Kirk is an "Action Man" and not a scientist or engineer, but Spock is! So old spock travels back in time to aid in young Kirks mission to pass the kobiashi miru, as Nero reprogrammed it to begin with so no cadet could win?!?

Pike is in the new movie for some reason: Possibly we will see a hand over with Spock meeting Kirk for the first time as he takes command. Remember Spock has served under Captain Pike for 10 years. Its why he is so loyal to Pike. Pike most likey recommends Spock to Kirk as the best science officer he has ever worked with and suggests Kirk retain him and rely on his experience.

If my scenario pans out expect a lot of battle damage. It would may make the battle of Wolf 359 (between the United Federation of Planets' Starfleet and the Borg Collective) pale by comparison.

We KNOW Pike is in the film and that actor Bruce Greenwood is playing him, this is confirmed.

We presume this figures into Spock's early career and a potential hand-over of the Enterprise to Kirk as its next captain... but we'll have to wait to see for certain.

I like it. Using the A seems a little over the top, but otherwise sounds good!

If I had to pick a form of time travel for Spock, I would like to see the Guardian used more than the good old "slingshot" way.

Could that work?

Just remember when McCoy changed the timeline in the past the future dissapeared and Spock and Kirk had to set it right to bring it back otherwise they were stuck on the planet with no way off.

If either Nero or Spock used the Guardian to change the past they would be affecting their own futures as well.
