That depends on whether the $150,000,000 (it looks really impressive that way - whoo) includes promotion, or if that is just production costs. What I want is for it to be succcessful enough for there to be more Star Trek after this. If this does bomb, we aren't going to see more Star Trek for decades. So keep your fingers crossed that this does do well.

It looks to be as large as STTMP was in 1979. That is saying a lot.

Well the actors have signed on for 3 movies total IIRC. But it will be based on the popularity of the first. I really want the sequels, if made, to have thought put into them (unlike some sequels)

I think this is going to be HUGE!!! Every Star Trek film before this one was a big deal for Trekkies and Trekkers. This might be the first time that a Star Trek movie is anticipated by Star Trek fans and simple action or sci fi fans. I believe this movie will have a larger audience then any past Star Trek film. Mark my words.

Just how big a "blockbuster" would it need to be to cover that?
Not to mention the promotional costs and so forth...they need to make at least $200 million to break even...

With the fanbase not 100% united behind it and hoping the general public will respond, that's a tall order...

If they play their cards right, I think the movie can go far... Though, I just don't want to see what happens if and when it flops because then you probably will not see anything new in trek for a quite a while...

For us Trekkies, is must be a good Trek movie, for the rest of the world, it must also be a movie that everyone can see and understand. If you do that and do it well, you can revive the series.

My prediction is that it will break the bank...Trek will be back I think JJ and his team have a lot of synergy going for them...But the key is to bring in a new younger following. I can't wait to see what the viral marketing will like...If it's anything like Cloverfield we are in for a fun ride....

THe most part of the fanbase are still intrigued by the movie even if they are not sold upon it. Which generally means they will go see it or see it based upon the reviews of others.

What the powers that be need to do is just get rid of this stupid stereotype that star trek is for pimply nerds that sit in their room all day and dress up as their favourite captain ! Once that is achieved (which is another tall order) we can hope that people use what is called an open mind and go see it. But if you look at transformers, it was blockbuster but still nerdy. It just looked frackin awesome !
