Default John Berkey

I haven't seen this mentioned yet on the forum, so I hope you folks will bear with me, if it's already run it's course.

John Berkey, the Wisconsin artist who was famous for his "impressionistic starship" paintings, passed away early last week. He'd been having health problems for a while. If you've ever seen one of his paintings, you'll know who I'm talking about. He was a totally original voice when it came to creating science fiction art.

Often copied, no one has ever managed to equal the scale and the level of implied detail that he often created with just dashes and dots and smears of paint. So powerful were his ship designs, that George Lucas attempted to capture that "look" on several ships in the rebel fleet, most noticably in the Medical Frigate at the end of "Empire."

He'll be missed.
