Default So Which Bloody Is It Already!?

I am so utterly confused. Reboot, True Prequel, Remake, respect to cannon, no respect.

Quotes from Nichelle Nichols and others saying that its a true prequel, that you can essentially get done watching and then pick up your season sets of TOS and go forth. (Which is what I want)

Others claiming that its a TOTAL reboot! (personally scares me it's like saying your years of watching 40+ trek years no longer count.)

Still others saying something in between..quotes from Orci, Kurtzman and Abrams flying about like so much bad phaser fire, and in the end what are we getting what are we seeing?

Nobody Knows!

from all these posts you end up with something like this.

It's a ...Star Trek TOS Prequel (everyone agrees on this part)

That is a true prequel whilst simultaneously being a TOTAL reboot that is respectful to cannon all the while somehow partially and or completely destroying it....

In the words of the Romulan Senator from Star Trek VI

"Mr President, I don't know what to believe!"

It actually is all of the above--thus the confusion.

You think each of those three terms are exclusive? You are confused.

I'm getting the impression more and more they are doing a "Casino Royale-2006" style treatment of this film.

Okay, I'm walking a very fine line here, as my 'source' comes from unauthorized Paramount photos - and, no, I'm not telling you where or what, so don't ask.

The only point I'm trying to make is, at least in terms of the general technology of the film, they certainly seem to be going very-much 'old school'. (In fact, it looks so 'right', it's actually got my hopes up! *Grin*)

Well perhaps not all of them, but True Prequel and Reboot are mutually exclusive and cannon respect/ no cannon respect are also mutually exclusive.
