Ah yes! Captain Robau!

The Captain's spot has given me fits and not for a lack of good captains. James Kirk (prime) is the favorite candidate, but captains Robau, Rachel Garrett, Garrovick, A.G. Robinson, Silva Laforge, the Captains of the Starships Saratoga would ALL likely be good Captains. Were I to choose the best four captains eligible, I would pick Jim Kirk, Captain Robau, Captain Garrett, and A.G. Robinson as the dark horse.

I like Robau, but we did not really see much of his command style: he did not seem weak... But he did not display cool-fearlessness in the face of the surprise attack - that said, he remained calm and collected when facing his foe directly!

I have to say though that I am unfamiliar with A.G. Robinson and Silva LaForge... Could you enlighten me please?

Silva LaForge is Geordi's mother.
I haven't read the whole thread, by why not create your own characters?
I've been in a group that has been pen and paper RPGing for over a decade and we have come up with characters and stories in the Trek Verse and not once have we had to rely on an estabilshed character. In order to make a story good an interesting don't rely on familiar characters to help you out, though it does help in that you don't have to spend time developing them, but that's no fun. I like to see new characters and new ideas. The only familiarties we have currently are names because we suck at coming up with names.
Also leave out the most powerfull ship i nthe fleet idea as it's over done. Our heros have to be the under dog and use their intelligence to get out of some situations.

Well the thing is that using deceased characters with an established history helps give a little added interest to their circumstances and creates a variety of views based on their respective time periods. By the time frame in question... Originally the last year of the Dominion War but now pushed back to 2386, the Enterprise-C will definitely not be the baddest ship in the galaxy.

As for A.G. Robinson, he was Johnathan Archer's main competition to get the NX-01 Enterprise and helped teach him to be a little less hide bound to the regulations. Had he not been killed in a rock climbing accident he would have been the odds on choice to command the NX-02.

Some deletions to make...

As much as I like Keith Carradine, Captain Robinson would really be no more experienced in command than Archer was in his first year. We need a Captain who can lead and bond this very diverse and understandably confused crew together. Robinson out.

Commander Sonak... We only saw a minute of him on film. He must be a gifted officer and science officer if Kirk recommended him for the posting on the Enterprise, but Kirk's comment that "I'd still like a Vulcan there..." after Sonak's death may have indicated that he was really trying to get a substitute Spock when Spock simply was not available. Three ways to go here...
  • Eliminate Sonak and make Jadzia Dax Science Officer as well as XO.
  • Replace Sonak with Xon (From the unrealized Star Trek Phase II series.)
  • Keep Sonak.
Lang... This guy is supposedly a tactical officer but we never got any real good idea whether he was primarily a weapons officer, a ground tactical officer, or what. He seems to be a Dunsel.

Still looking for opinions and suggestions.

Sounds like a cool idea. If you're still stuck for a possible CMO, then how about the original doctor on Voyager (the one who was killed on Caretaker) ?? I'm sure you could pull his name off Memory Alpha or Beta or something -- after a little detective work, of course.

I had a (possible) brainwave the other day!

At the end of "BoT" The Romulan Commander says: "In another life, we could have been friends..." To Kirk. Well: This is quite a different life you are making!

You could have the Romulan Commander become part of your crew!

This is a mad idea...
