Post What style hand Phaser do you want to see? Pike era Laser Pistol or TOS Phaser

We saw Pistol Lasers used by Pike and his crew in the Cage time frame compared to the Type 1 and 2 Phasers used by Kirk in TOS time frame. Of course 100 years before in Archers time we saw a Pistol used in the pilot "Broken Bow" and later a Phase Pistol. So what do you think Abrams Prop department needs to design?

I want to see a phaser pistol that actually looks like a gun.

Something like this:

Well since this is Star Trek and with Trek you must have a phaser battle somewhere in the movie I'm guessing something along the lines of Pike's lasers. However, I'm gussing that will be something that is crossed out and instead there will be phasers. I don't mind that. Design wise it has to be something new and different. Something inbetween Pike's and Kirk's.

I think they'll probably stick close to the original design but add a few things to them to "make them cool"

probably something to compete with the light sabre or something :P

Why not have light sabres? Oh darn, against canon, my bad guys.

I hope they will NOT look like today's guns!

I'd like to see something halfway between the two...

This apparently takes place a few years before the first five year mission.... the events of The Cage took place 13 years before.. so we can safely guess we'll be seeing Pike 10 years after Talos IV.

Plenty enough time for the "Laser pistol" to evolve closer to the TOS phaser we know.

If it is truly set in multiple eras, I'd hope that they'd have different designs matching the era (TOS-style phaser, Cage-style laser pistol, maybe TNG-style phaser).

I also hope that the "phasers" in the 2240s/50s aren't referred to as such, so we can at least pretend they're shooting laser pistols. (This is assuming that Orci/Kurtzman don't want to refer to "laser pistols" onscreen).

I'd love to see the retro 60's phaser make a return (with some 'upgrades' or whatever), but I'm expecting more of a mix between that classic pistol and the Enterprise era weapon.

Funny, but one of the better retro-style phasers I've seen was the one Tim Allen uses in Galaxy Quest.
