Essentially you got what you were promised out of this promo.
the show didn't pretend to be intellectually intresting. It didn't address any social concerns ( nor do I really think it could at that century) or do much exploring of any kind. It was military enough to actually be Early Trek but it had far too many tech details to really be seen as the predecessor of the 1701.
With ENTERPRISE you either liked it or you didn't.
Compared with DS9...which most people managed to adapt to, Enterprise just kind broke the mold.

Perhaps DS9 had a safe out. They put Keiko and Miles on the show. Heck I remember not likely Sisko because of his bad attitude toward Picard...I didn't care how hurt he was...that was superior officer.
