A Board of inquiry would be a certainty to establish the how and why of the ship's disappearance and journey home but it seems strange that if she was made an admiral the court-martial could have been anything other than a procedural formality because she should have been found guilty.

And in the general interests of the service, PR etc these would have been classed as decisions of lattitude. She probably had an admonishment in there somewhere but she basically got off with it.

I think that was a potential missed opportunity as well. One one hand I know why getting home was saved for the finale but as someone earlier said it might also have been interesting if they had gotten home maybe a handful of episodes earlier so that we could see them beginning the adaptation back to life at home. We could have seen Janeway defending her actions, giving us the chance to revisit events from a different perspective. I have no idea though how they could have written a finale out of that though. (Of course since they never seemed to be missing out on creature comforts they may not have realised they had been so far away but...)

Absolutely not! Of course there would have been a general review of Voyagers interaction in the Delta Quadrant, but thats all.

I think that some kind of procedure would have had to have taken place, Janeway had a lot of command decisions to explain, which she could carry out fine with no higher authority to answer to, but once back home she was going to have to give a good account of herself. Plus there were related issues, she was involved in the loss of another Federation starship with the Equinox business. Ransom went even further off track than Janeway, but she was the only command officer left to explain that as well. If i was reviewing the case i wouldn't just carry out a general review and then move on, that would seem to be fairly light treatment of the events in question.

What makes you think that?

No way they would court martial her. Not after she hobbed the Borg.

She only really did that as a side effect of going back to try and save Seven, it wasn't entirely her main aim. She just wanted to use them to get the ship home sooner than the original timeline.
