Default Genesis

Not talking about the Biblical chapter or the Genesis Device, talking about the band. Who's a fan? Who's not? Any particular era? Personally I like the Peter Gabriel material quite a bit. Watchers of the Sky, Musical Box, The Knife, Supper's Ready, Firth of Fifth, The Cinema Show, In the Cage, some of my favorites. I like the long ones!

Formed in '67, the band is 41 years old! They just did a tour, playing lots of their material from the Gabriel days but Collins singing, Gabriel didn't join them on the tour. Anyone seen them live?

Here's an old video of them performing The Musical Box, starts out kinda slow but around 3 minutes, they're scorching!

A couple of other good concert clips, though much later!

I tend to like the Gabriel years the best, especially the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. Of the Collins years, I like ABACAB the best.

Yeah good choices, The Lamb's a great album, also liked Selling England by the Pound quite a bit. Always thought Abacab had a very 60's sound to it, the song I mean.

What about Foxtrot? Good lesser know album.

Yeah, that's the one that has Supper's Ready on it, which is around 25 or so minutes. It's a good album, Gabriel started dressing up like a fox, wearing a dress, he liked his theatrics! I heard in an interview that Gabriel got the idea for Supper's Ready from an experience he had with his wife. They went into this room on the top floor of a house they were living in at the time and the room always rubbed Gabriel the wrong way evidently, gave him the creeps and they spent time in this room and he swears his wife began to act as though she were possessed by a spirit and her face changed and the experience scared the s*^t out of Gabriel and he got the idea for Supper's Ready from it.

Another I liked with Collins singing was Wind and Wurthering.

It's kinda sad, when you mention Genesis to most people they think Invisible Touch and that god awful song I Can't Dance, but there's a lot of history there!

Sounds like Gabriel's idea system working there....lol. I have a clip, cannot remember the song right now, but he's dressed as a flower.

Collins really did step up when Gabriel left. Keep in mind Invisible Touch was their biggest commercial sucess, people will allways think of it first.

I like...And Then there Were Three. Allthough Duke wasn't that bad...wasn't their best effort either.

Peter Gabriel for sure.

I heard somewhere the band was originally called Revelations. Don't know if that's true but I like the idea.

First I've heard of it. It's possible though!

The flower head was on Supper's Ready. Yeah And Then There were Three was good, always like Deep In the Motherload and Follow You Follow Me. Actually I think all their albums had good stuff on them, it's just that the Gabriel years and the Collins years about up to Duke were the most consistent and imaginative.

Invisible Touch for all it's commercial success did have a few good tracks, always liked Domino and the Brazilian. One of the videos I posted was The Brazilian.

Yeah, something like that, 'Revelations'. Their first album was called From Genesis to Revelation and their producer just called them Genesis and it stuck.
