Default Kickstarter-funded fan films

I've recently learned of four very interesting Kickstarter-funded Star Trek fan films, the first two by accident, the third by actual effort, and the fourth by e-mail requesting use of my LCARS schematics. Anyway, I've written up brief descriptions of them for Star Trek Journal, and here are all four they are pasted in. And from now on, I'd just better heed the seventh Rule of Acquisition and keep my ears open.

Star Trek: Renegades is a fan-film project to create a pilot for a new Star Trek series. Several former Trek actors will appear, including Walter Koenig, Robert Picardo, and Tim Russ, who also directs. William Shatner has a cameo. Funding is through Kickstarter. Principle photography is completed, and the full-length pilot is expected to be 90 minutes long and be released in Fall 2014.

A 20-minute fanfilm is in the works called Star Trek: Prelude to Axanar, set 21 years before the five-year mission of Captain Kirk and his Enterprise crew, due to be released this May. The project, headed by Alec Peters, who played Garth in Star Trek: Phase II, had raised nearly $60,000 as of March 28. Onboard are J.G. Hertzler, Richard Hatch, Michael Hogan, and Gary Graham (who will play Soval, as he did in Enterprise). It is planned as a prelude to a full-length movie with a $250,000 budget about the Battle of Axanar, which was won by Garth. Star Trek: Prelude to Axanar will be presented like a documentary of the events to be seen in the subsequent full-length film. Star Trek: Phase II special-effects man Tobias Ritcher will also be contributing his talents to the project, and Peters expects to do more in the future.

Star Trek: Horizon is a Kickstarter-funded, feature-length, ENT-era (NX-04 Discovery), Romulan War fan film due out late 2014. The CGI looks great.

John Savage will reprise his role as Captain Rudy Ransom (VOY: Equinox), having been beamed away an instant before his ship exploded, and Gary Lockwood will reprise his role as Gary Mitchell (TOS: Where No Man Has Gone Before), together in a Kickstarter-funded fan film called Star Trek Equinox.

Gary Lockwood is retired but impressed enough with the script coauthored by John Savage and writer Camren T. Burton to do this film. In 1997 he played Chief Justice Earl Warren in the episode of Dark Skies that brought on Jeri Ryan as regular, the gig that led to her role on VOY.
