Ensgin is indeed a officer rank.

Cheif is a NCO (non commisioned officer) rank.

All this is very religous in Trek of course....LOL.

Um. Kira was given a field commision with a rank of Commander. And considering the circumstances was probably allowed (cause Sisko and Admiral Ross would be aware of her spiritual beliefs) to wear her earring. Same flexibility Picard shown Ro.

Well Sisko may have not had a choice (not that he seemed that way) DS9 was a Bajoran station admistered by Starfleet.

Her rank by that episode was actually Lt Col.

well when you consider that she got to keep wearing her earring and she was a very religious person (her faith was uberimportant to her)...and she got to keep wearing the earring...

When she accepted the field commission, she became a member of starfleet, albeit temporarily. He had a choice, but really, the mission was more important than an earring.

But as I allready said, it was a Bajoran station, not a Starfleet one. It was only adminstered by Starfleet. So Starfleet rules wouldn't apply to the earring, I don't think.

First and most important for me to note: I find it a bit rude to bash Saquist for his way of wording. Its one thing to correct someone, critique and assistance is a way of respect for eachother, but its a total different thing to play the silly "you dont even know how intelligence is spelled" game. Thats a bit low, I think.

Second, as I have posted before in this thread, I am absolutely sure the producers of the shows thought Starfleet to have pretty strict rules about uniforms. Ensign Ro had to ask Picard for his approval to wear the ear ring, as well as Worf had to ask Sisko for approving the Sash.

That does not mean, that Picard or Sisko had the right to approve it in terms of rules and regulations, they just did it. If the superior doesnt complain and no one cares for this or that rule, then a Klingon runs around with a sash and a Bajoran with an ear ring. Even military organizations have a human factor.

Normally I'd agree that picking on grammar or spelling is rude, however, when one is holding himself up as "the perfect, logical, factual" being, one is expected to get at least close to writing an understandable sentence. This is especially true since he has repeatedly claimed we fail to understand him and so show ourselves to be ignorant, lesser beings.

I stand corrected.
However she was not a major but a colonel in the Bajora militia.
Goes to rank...as to privileges of a senior officer.
