One of the reasons I avoid fandom, or being called a fan is because fans tend to have this misguided sense of ownership. "I love it! It is mine! It should go in the direction I tell it to!" There are TONS of reasons why I avoid "fandom" anymore, and this is one of the principal irks among them.

I believe there are far better choices than Affleck, and I really don't agree with his casting as the Dark Knight, but I won't be opposed if he can actually pull off the role.

I do hope he does not try to go for the low growly voice that Bale had in the DK Trilogy. Much as I loved the DK Trilogy, that was one of the only things I think I found--annoying.

I honestly believe that Nathan Fillion (Firefly/Serenity, Castle) could pull off the role. He can be quirky and aloof, like Bruce Wayne, and he can play the tough guy role with equal gravitas.

You may be right, but I also figure Affleck's probably older than he is....although likely in better shape.

I haven't watched Castle (new Fillion show) so I can't really say.

I've watched Castle, and I can't really see it. Fillion's more of a comic character in everything he plays. When he does Shakespeare he plays the clown.

Bale is THE method actor in Hollywood. But beyond that, which was undoubtedly very useful for his Batman gig, there is nothing special about him; if you ignore his willingness to do extreme stuff to delve into a role he is just a good but not brilliant actor. Like Affleck.

I guess most of this is about the physical aspect of Batman, he should be an intimidating bada*s. While this was certainly the case during Nolan's trilogy it is in no way mandatory, Burton's movies worked well with Keating's calm and reserved portrayal of Bruce Wayne.

You know, I'd never thought of it much but as soon as I read that I totally agreed. Even in 'Firefly' there's often a comedic undercut or punchline even after a serious moment. I don't know if he could lose that comedic swagger if he needed to.

But he wasn't cast anyway so it is a little moot.
