Well, see, we have always disagreed on whether or not JJ's trek was low quality. I don't subscribe to that. In fact, I think it's one of the better ones.
And again, if they don't make money, they aren't going to get funded.

The post above is in response to Horatio, not Kevin.

And while 'The Cage' may be viewed as preferable to 'Where No Man Has Gone Before'..........which one got the series put into weekly production for everything else to follow? You gotta give people meat and potatoes here and there.

I had actually posted that I prefer Where No Man Has Gone Before to The Cage but I deleted it because I wasn't sure if I actually felt that way. I kind of go back and forth on that one. I think I do have a preference for WNMHGB but it might not be strong.

I like 'em both for the most part anyway so it's six and half a dozen to me. But which one I watch when just depends what I'm looking for at the time.

I doubt it will tank and I don't wish it to do badly. I actually hope that Abrams will direct the third Trek film so he can complete his trilogy. There is room for both types of Trek. I personally prefer the old to the new.

I don't really see the old and the new as in competition. I think they are both welcome. And as for the last Abrams movie, I like it a lot. I rank it higher than quite a few of the films that came before it, but not all of them.

There are a lot of types of Trek and some of it works better than others. Across all series you have episodes that are considerably much more substantial (thematically and in terms of basic script literacy) and episodes that are fluffy disposable nonsense (really just there for entertainment) and you get everything in-between. There is stuff that is downright awful and stuff that's timeless. You will inevitably get that in both universes as the new one develops. It's a thoroughly mixed bag.

Yep, for every City on the Edge of Forever, you get space hippies! Mixed bag indeed!
