I
![]() I ran across this poster for “The Day of the Dead” and I thought perhaps the public’s appetite would diminish after a steady diet of remakes and sequels. Obviously not. What’s your take of the genre? edit: Hopefully this works. Last edited by Gary Seven : 03-25-2008 at 04:22 PM. |

These are all based on on movies and books. About half of the remakes have been good.

I liked the Romero originals, though wasn't impressed by LAND OF THE DEAD. I didn't like the 80s/90s remakes much, but I did appreciate Zach Snyder's DAWN OF THE DEAD... as its own creature, so to speak.

Don't forget George Romero has a new movie called "Diary of the Dead" which I'm looking forward to see. As for re-makes I did enjoy the '80s movies like The Thing, The Blob, The Fly, at least those directors kind of did their own twist on it. Ever since the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dawn of the Dead remakes were released they've just been accelerating filming more. April Fools Day was released on DVD last Tuesday, Prom Night will be released in theaters next month, currently in production is Friday the 13th, Escape from New York, Dune, Terror Train, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Suspiria and many more to come.

I wonder about Hollywood...why the need in the last 10 years especilaly to remake, retell, or re-invision every, movie, tv show, ect of the last 40 years??!!
Almost all are inferior, remember the "retelling" of Planet Of The Apes in 2001? Even as a Tim Burton fan, I was horrified by the lack of a good script. The 1968 version was far superior in every way. The "remake" of Dawn Of The Dead. This film itself wasn't so bad, but it should have been called soemthing else. I love Zombie moives, especially Romero's, and the italian knockoffs of his films. I just dont see the need to remake it. Write a new zombie script Hollywood!!

NO! writing NEW or innovative zombie script is completely contrary to the nature of the beast.. so to speak
all zombie films MUST by definition be rehashed versions of everyone elses plots zombies are terrifying, rotting creature that looks just like all the other zombies! zombie films must mirror this! mmm.. zombies. i love zombies. i'm excited for it. and the new romero film. OH MAN but i hope they have the drunk stoned jamaican man, and the frankenstine zombie getting its head chopped off, oh and the nice kind zombie man who learns to use the phone ![]() i <3 horror! |
