The article is plain bad as it is obsessed with the storyline from the TAS episode which certainly will not be repeated and as it fails to explain how there could have been a captain of the Enterprise before Pike. Last time I checked its first voyage was the one we saw in STXI.
As appealing as the "Starfleet captain gone rogue" motif is and as preferable April would be over Khan or Mitchell, he is simply not a likely candidate for the true identity of John Harrison.

The comic is a four parter like 'Countdown' before it, so I would assume whatever explanation for April's statement they've concocted will emerge somewhere in issues 2 - 4.

If he's actually Robert April of course (coz.........ya NEVER know!)
