From what I've read, there's really no argument that SOME of TAS has crept into TREK canon -- it's just not yet accepted entirely in one series 'block' as canon. As of now, it's the very pickiest of buffet menus for canon ideas.

Two ideas: I don't think Abrams/Orci/Kurtzman would use very much from TAS, but I don't think they feel compelled to utterly ignore it either; and let's face it, if the spirit of Gene Roddenberry appeared this afternoon to officially canonize every cel of TAS as equal to all other series and films... canon would only get more complicated and self-contradictory, not less.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. It would certainly keep TREk fans talking and debating for another 40 years.
