Strange, when Paramount poured money into Trek everybody was happy but when a merger between Disney and Lucasfilms happens and launches a new Wars project everybody sees the four horsemen approaching.

Not me, I meant it when I said I don't know what to make of it yet. I'm going to have to see what they do with it before I know what to think. It could turn out to be the best thing to happen to Star Wars in decades, or it could be utter crap. Or, anywhere in between.

Not that I recall everyone being happy about the last Trek film even before it came out, but let's just say my Disney (and let's be honest - of Lucas himself as well) cyncism is far greater than my Paramount cynicism based on personal perspective and observations. I think generally the prequels were so divisive amongst people there's been a ripple effect around Lucas ever since. Especially given his changing stances. At one point there were to be no more live action films he indicated. Now, someone somewhere has a trilogy mapped out? I do find it intriguing but more in a 'what's actually going on behind the scenes with this' more than the films just now. Of course, finding more about them could change all that. We'll just have to see who it is that ends up making them!

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what names get attached to this, and what story they are going to tell. I saw one article say it's going to be about Luke after Return of the Jedi, but I don't know if that is accurate or not.

Lotta rumours already.
Online, fan buzz is mostly about the Timothy Zahn book trilogy (which I read when I was a kid and I remember actually being pretty good) but there's nothing concrete I can see yet. However, if this story of a mapped out trilogy already is true, then someone must already have done some of the groundwork on what the story would be. And if it's not been Lucas...............who has it been?

I never read any of the Star Wars books. Maybe if that turns out to be true I should.

Even though it would not qualify as an episode 7,8, or 9, one book I would LOVE to see adapted for a movie is "Death Star". That story weaved in and out and around episode 4, and I loved the hell out of it.

Part of the reason the original trilogy comes up is because for many fans its the entirety of the franchise, the only part they want to acknowledge. Which would seem to further support the notion that we don't need any more SW. |
