One thing I don't understand is why redo a character at all? Not that it seems to bother the creators too much but why tie yourself down to expectations of what a character is supposed to be like when they'll probably do something with him or her that makes the fans say 'he shouldn't be like that, it's totally unfaithful to the old show', why not just make someone completely new with whom they can do whatever they want with.

IMO opinion if they're going to recreate an old character then make it a cameo which is a nod to those fans, a nice little goofy scene or something which doesn't affect the story but would make people smile. In that sense I could actually live the film having say Mudd in it.

Karl also was asked by Coming Soon about his comments last week about Benedict Cumberbatch playing Gary Mitchell. He would not elaborate, but did offer this caveat.

Pending official word from the studio I would certainly take nothing as a fact. Whether they are involved with the film or not. Of course, it also wouldn't be the first time someone 'accidentally' lets something slip either when they weren't meant to.
