I don't think either group uniformly agrees with that, nor does the U.S. Supreme Court. Otherwise, why do both groups accept corporate money? Could you get all members of both parties to agree to not accept corporate money? No way! The only alternative is public financing of campaigns which I agree with, but no one wants their taxes raised.

In Germany public party finance costs about 6€ per capita and year, obviously a trivial amount. Not that things are golden over here or that public party finance automatically prevents the unraveling of democracy but at least it slows it down.
