He played his character very well but he obviously understand little about anything else.
His view overlaps with Stewart who wanted more action for his character, thus totally misunderstanding his own creation. This neatly proves the old saying that artists should just do their stuff. When you ask them about what they are actually doing you might get seriously disappointed.

First Contact came out after, and it was decent. The two after that were crap, but that one was good.

He does have a point really, and First Contact aside the other films were certainly not as good as they perhaps should have been.

I think there is some merit to it, although I do disagree slightly about the Picard thing. While his dialogue in the two bad movies was not always effective, that was more a function of writing. The TV show proved that it can work when done well. The problem is that the movies did not do it well by and large.

It's funny but I prefer the TOS movies to the TOS TV show, but I prefer TNG TV show to the TNG movies.

On most days I'd pretty much agree with that.

As for Picard, he was a bit gun-ho in most of the movies but I reckon that was because the movies were meant to have more action in them anyway, and since he is effectively the main character he was always going to get that. Still there was no need for the car...
